Introduction
The core purpose of the system is to record and benchmark farm economic performance of dairy herds of all sizes, in order to identify the top 25% of the industry within each management system, and to drill into why they are outperforming their peers, confirming critical best practices. The performance data analysis identifies the elite animals in the upper quartile to assist farmers with selection decisions (breed and strain) and to develop and refine a local profitability index for cows, cow families and the future local bull team.
The software has eight modules: Benchmarking/Farm KPI’s, Soil Benchmarking, Plant Benchmarking, Farm Master Data, Livestock, Herd Performance, Operating Toolkit, and Farm Technical Support.
The Operating Toolkit has three sub modules for each of Soil, Pastures and Animals that includes a series of How To guides that describe how processes are conducted on farm. The “How To” guides have been adapted from a NZ context to support the dairy producer context in tropical regions and made available on line in the database context. Over time these guides will be updated for the Tanzanian context.
The functionality of FB-HB enables efficient monitoring and management of extension officer service to farmers and reinforces “farming as a business” thinking and habits for farmer.

This division is intended to enhance scalability and extensibility of the application to,
- Reduce the traffic between the browser and web server.
- Differentiate the presentation layer from the iterations of objects.
- Provide an API for each of the application objects.
- Use the maximum amount of compiled and optimized code for the system core libraries.
- Externalize the business logic in server scripts that do not need to be compiled before being run.
- Reduce the number of calls to the database when these operations can be run atomically from the database manager.
Wide Range of Customers
The FarmBuilder liveware (NZ practitioners), software, and hardware solution have been developed to support developing dairy industries, primarily targeting the small to medium-sized producer segments, but also supporting the interface to larger farmers.
Primary Objective
The primary objective is to guide farmers to make their farms profitable by improving dairy genetics best fit for weather, maximising pasture energy utilisation, and reducing expenses.
Benchmark Farm Performance
The core purpose of the system is to benchmark farm performance, identify the top 25% of the industry, figure out why they are outperforming their peers, capture those best practices, then identify the elite animals in the upper quartile and develop and derive a local profitability index for cows, cow families and the future local bull team.
A National level Deployment
For a national level deployment or deployment for a data warehouse, FarmBuilder recommended design should be like followings, Under this design, we recommend Oracle database cluster running a SAN (Storage area network) and multiple interface shall be installed for multiple user.
